Kienya Smith - of North Preston, Nova Scotia - has been singing since she was four years old. Music comes naturally to Kienya - Her father, the Reverend Wallace Smith, was a founding member of the internationally renowned Nova Scotia Gospel Heirs group.

Kienya has been singing in church choirs her entire life, one of them being the Hallelujah Praise choir, and she is also the music director for the BYF (Baptist Youth Fellowship choir) at Saint Thomas United Baptist Church. Now embarking on a solo singing and song-writing career, she received an ANSMA (African Nova Scotian Music Association) award for "Best Up and Coming Artist" in 2005. One of her accomplishments is her participation in "Jeri Brown - The Spirit Comes Through", a 1-hour show for BRAVO! The show was chosen to screen at the 25th Atlantic Film Festival.

She has also participated in the "DRUM" production by Brooks Diamond which was aired on CBC. Kienya's had the privilege of sharing the stage with Rita MacNeil on one of her TV specials ("Rita MacNeil and Friends") along with Gary Beals and gospel great Mavis Staples.

In 2008, Kienya was chosen through an audition process to be a part of a 12 member choir that was used to record and participate throughout a 6 part mini-series that aired on "Vision" tv called "Mahalia" a SOUL production that stared Canadian R&B artist Keisha Chante.

Kienya is hoping to land a role in the upcoming "DreamGirls" musical which will take place in the Halifax / Dartmouth area within the next year. Kienya is currently preparing to record her first EP in a Halifax studio.
